Summer brings Sun and smiles around and the National Broadcast have made a direct show from Milfontes to Present our National Park as one of the seven wonders of Portugal. One of the guests was Tim a famous singer in Portugal who was born around. Amazing landscape and good music it’s a fantastic mix and Tim his the ideal personality to represent us in this contest. Exodus from UK

During the last month we had some special guests. It seems that more and more people wish to EXODUS from UK to Alentejo for a cycling trip. This guided trip showed to be a success and in September we will have more… that’s fantastic… we’ve lots of space, landscape and food for everyone.

April and May are wonderful months to travel around. Springtime brings a new life and colors. The temperature is warm and the countryside full of flowers and birds just like in a wildlife movie. This year we’ve the visit of 3 Swiss groups for a guided walking trip. One week exploring the coastline and inland. Based at Casa da Eira they have all the comfort they need after a walk. For those who live surrounded by mountains the unexplored coastline is something unique… and it is. For us it’s a pleasure to see how they interact and how pleased they can be. After all despite the distances from the mountains to the see is just a small step but a real new experience.

Either you want to start a walking or a cycling trip or just stay in our accommodation at the Alentejo coastline we’ve prepared this fantastic dinning room for all our customers. It’s brand new. Next year will arrive the swimming pool and a new garden. This is how we wish to grow: small and personal with a human touch and this is how we get more and more smiles, a guestbook full of kind and gentle notes. In an early nineteenth century dispatch the Duke of Wellington wrote: “there is something very extraordinary in the nature of the people of the Peninsula, the most loyal and best-disposed…”. With a glimpse of a sunny day your brain might start wishing: holidays. After this first chapter he will tell you: maybe Europe and he also might think how about Portugal?! Yes, we’ve a well known brand around here which includes: sun, beach, golf and gastronomy… and friendly people.

If you’re the kind of person who likes history you will remember that Portugal is a country with many centuries and Lisbon the capital of an hold empire that combines heritage and a brand new artistic atmosphere. Maybe you also consider the Port wine and Douro region with their valleys and manner houses, the green, cultural and tasty Portugal. But from this point ahead what guidelines you have? Let me touch in your curiosity: Alentejo… does this name sounds familiar to you? I imagine not. It’s not included in the touristic brochures or highlighted as the great place to go if you choose Portugal and that is something totally unfair. Alentejo is the place where you’ll discover the southern Europe and his rural roots, the remains of the Moorish people and habits, the frontier with Africa and the Atlantic. Alentejo is the sense of space and endless time.

How to answer to this question: should I go to Algarve or discover the Alentejo coastline? It’s easy and simple with few tips. You just need to pick the arguments and you’ll have the solution. So… if you’re addict for fancy and stylish hotels and restaurants, go to Algarve. If you feel alone when you’re not in the middle of a crowd, go to Algarve. If you just wish to stay at the sun and enjoy the smell of sun cream, go to Algarve. Golf… go to Algarve. If you like to feel at home when you travel with shops and restaurants like the ones you’ve at home… go to Algarve. If you feel comfortable with busy roads, go to Algarve. What about Alentejo? If you enjoy nature and unexplored places, go to Alentejo. If you like the feeling of free space, go to Alentejo. If you love to mix with local people and share his rural heritage, go to Alentejo. “A team of paleontological research in the Alentejo coast discovered the first known in Europe traces the social behavior of old elephant and found trails of footprints of extinct animals more than 30 thousand years”. Amazing discovers that tell us more about the habitat of the Alentejo coastline and his evolution. During our walking and cycling trips many of our visitors make some comments about the diversity of landscape and how similar it looks to Africa… indeed!

Our guesthouse Casa da Eira is the base and the perfect spot in Vila Nova de Milfontes village where people find good restaurants and bars in a relax and local style… yap, I must tell you in Alentejo things go slow, so bring yourself and a guitar and let’s do it!
